How the lands were created was long debated between civilizations. It was said that gods from above descended to the land, using every breath they had to give life into the formations of rock. Foliage grew, spreading throughout the land to create a habitat for the animals. From there humans came, building their civilization in different locations. A select group headed to the west, some to the east, and even north and south to find their own fortune. A select few stayed in the point of origin, building a city to give themselves a home. A family stepped up to rule, to give direction to the citizens of Tarneth.
From the sorcerers of the humans a new breed was born - Shapeshifters. A beautiful blend of human and animal, they were the midway point between the two factions. After the destruction of a human village by a rogue group of Shapeshifters, peace ended between the two races. Humans began to exterminate and imprison their cousins, making them slaves to do their whim. Eventually the Shifters became enraged and sickened by their lack of freedom and rebelled. A civil war broke out, raging until the Shifters were driven underground. By that time the Atlas family came to power, overthrowing the government.
Centaurs and Elves remained apart as their own civilizations, staying out of the way of the civil war. The dragons kept to themselves, feral and without much structure.
